Free Home Schools
There is no such thing as completely free home schools really, simply because teachers need to earn
a living as well. Having said that though, there are ways of providing virtually free home schools. However, we are
jumping the gun. If you want to provide home schooling for your youngsters, the first thing you need to do is find
out what the local government requirements are. In most countries, there are statutory legal requirements, that you
must fulfill if you provide an education.
Free Home Schools
If totally free home schools are impossible, there are ways to reduce costs. Having got hold of the the
government's requirements for homeschooling, you have a template of what you have to provide, but here are some
ideas on achieving those legal requirements at the lowest possible cost.
Provide a room, that will only be used for teaching, reading and storing your educational books, stationery,
videos and other learning aids. It is vital to have a quiet room, where you can go to prepare lessons and your
child can learn, study alone and do homework. The furniture should be business-like rather than casual and there
should be at least two desks.
If you are prepared to join forces with another family to share the task of teaching, you will need a desk per
child. These can be secondhand to keep costs down, but you could re-sand and revarnish the tops to make them as
good as new. Buy textbooks and writing materials in bulk from eBay or Amazon.
You can save a lot of money, by getting a free homeschool curriculum from the internet. A free home school
curriculum will save a lot of money, but make sure that it fulfills government requirements. If you are religious,
ask at your church or look online for a suitable free curriculum for grades applicable to students of your
child's age group.
When you look through the free home school curriculum, you will doubtless become aware of certain gaps in your
own education. Swotting up and then teaching it is a great way to learn, but you could also try to arrange guest
speakers to come to your home to give a few lessons on specialized subjects.
A local vicar or priest might come round once a month or you could send your child to Sunday School at the
church. Do your best to find other home schooling parents in the area, so that you can pool your talents,
experience and resources. If you cannot find one, set up your own homeschool support group.
Set up a blog as part of your homeschool lesson plan, but aim it at homeschool support. Have one section for
students and one for parents and one open forum. Password protect them if, necessary. Put Google and Amazon ads on
there to bring in a little extra money.
You might specialize in maths, so once a fortnight, you could teach hard parts of maths like calculus to your
children and, say, four others from other families and later their parents could teach their specialist subjects,
say social studies, to yours. Likewise, when guest speakers come around.
Share the experience with a few other families to give yourself a break and widen the perspective, so that the
child does not only get your point of view on everything.
Starting a homeschool is difficult, but when you know how to homeschool and the school is flowing, it is not so
bad. There may be no such thing as free home schools, but it does not have to be as tiring and expensive as most
people say that it is, if you are willing to share. Instead of free home schools, concentrate on virtually
free home schools instead.
